"Chek Jawa is a show-case for the miracle of life and life is a gift from Heaven"
Singaporeans from all walks of life vehemently urged the government to reconsider saving this nature gem from being swallowed by land reclamation and housing. It was an almost futile attempt to save Chek Jawa but miracles do happen. Enjoy the many gems while you can, for CJ may still not last forever. What is going to happen to CJ after the next six years will depend on the resolve and perserverence of all Singaporeans. Please do not short-change the future generation. If not, it will be a lost horizon.
Pictorial (Seen only at low tide, the sea grass lagoon and sandflats open a new vista in nature appreciation. Together with the coral and rock rubble, mangrove and coastal hill forest, Chek Jawa has held many spellbond with its biodiversity.
CJ revisited (The discovery of CJ has also made Singaporeans realize that there is more than meets the eye. Little pockets of nature, if retained, can stimulate understanding and respect for life and evoke emotions of bonding with the country)
Book (Coffee-table book on CJ records the struggles of nature conservation in land scarce Singapore and highlights the exquisite beauty of nature.
Public Guiding (Hundreds of carpet anemones scattered all over; numerous intriguing sea stars (including the humongous knobbly sea stars), hundreds if not thousands of sand dollars, lush carpet of sea weed and the list goes on. All these in concretized Singapore? It is hard to believe)
Press reports (Pulau Ubin and Chek Jawa were slated for development but all that had changed when land reclamation on Chek Jawa was deferred and decreasing housing needs placed less demand on the island.
