the oft-hidden wonders of Sungei Buloh Wetland
Reserve (SBWR), a mangrove ecosystem located in
the north-western part of Singapore.
The author piques the reader's interest in this little-known area with stunning images
of the migratory birds and other denizens of the
mangrove swamp. Vivid colours of the flora and fauna,
captured in the more than 360 photographs,

NESTING OF GREY HERONS
Bird nesting season is almost over and is not surprising that orb-web spiders are less visible as many had become fodder for the developing chicks of smaller birds. A number of Grey Herons nesting at Pasir Ris testifies to the importance of preserving our mangrove habitats. See more.

WADERS AT SBWR
It is the start of the migrating season for waders. Tried looking for the reported sighting of the Asian Dowitcher but wiithout success. Instead, had to be contended with the Ruddy Turnstone. The mangrove Shore Pit Viper and Oriental Whipsnake provided some distraction. See more |

KINGFISHERS GALORE
A number of Kingfishers are found at water areas and parks. Some have identifiable loud, piercing calls. Common seen are the White-throated, Stork-billed, Collared and Common Kingfishers. The forest Blue-eared Kingfisher is a rare sight. The Black-capped Kingfiher remains elusive. See More

As more land are set aside for our Parks and Gardens, butterflies are increasingly making their presence fellt. Looking forward to the opening of the "Gardens by the Bay". It will be a dream for nature lovers, birders and photographers. See more |
