Press Reports
Pulau Ubin and Chek Jawa were slated for development but all that had changed when land reclamation on Chek Jawa was deferred and decreasing housing needs placed less demand on the island.
The biodiversity at Chek Jawa is unparalled in modern Singapore and it is best seen at low tide. It is even more diverse than Labrador Park (which is now a National Park). My first impression was it was like "paradise on Earth". The images were vivid and vibrant and naturally, the flora and fauna were documented at every low tide. And that became the impetus for the coffee-table book "Chek Jawa - Discovering Singapore's Biodiversity." To this day, I am still mesmerized by what I have seen and I can expect the unexpected at CJ.
The mission now is to convince the authorities to gazette Chek Jawa as a National Park. This is the least we could do for our future generations.
