PULAU SARIMBUN
The elation of finding the Broadleaf fern (Dipteris conjugata) prompted the group to also look at the intertidal life there. Situated on the western Johor Straits and west of Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve, Pulau Sarimbun has a limited shorline, its habitat is generally rocky. A coastal hill forest had previously been explored by scientists. The water is quite silted and the shore is fringed by mangrove plants.
The trip on 27 May 2005 revealed Orange Fiddler crabs and Porcelain Fiddler crabs, 2 mating Horseshoe crabs, a brown and a red Rock star (Asterinas), Nerites, Sea slugs and Stone crabs. Mangrove plants of the Genus Rhizophora, Avicennia & Bruggeria were found there. And of course the prehistoric and rare Dipteris conjugata. And found in abundance too!
