Celebration of Life
Labrador Park
Labrador Park (12 ha) consists of a seashore forest, a rocky beach and coral communities. Recently gazetted a National Park, low tide at the rocky shore of Labrador is full of surprises. Seagrasses and sea weed are found in abundance. In the deeper water "live" hard corals still thrive. Hairy crabs, numerous molluscs, snapping shrimps and gobies are easily seen. If lucky, one may spot the dog-face water snakes, leaf fishes and the fast running Grapsus albolineatus crab
But sadly, hard corals are poached with impunity to decorate one's aquarium. While attempts are being made to educate students the ecology and importance of conservation of one of our last rocky shores, the damage as a result of the pilfering by the public is serious. It is a sad reflection of the general lack of environmental consciousness of Singaporeans.
